About CEMENT MORTAR PERMEABILITY APPARATUS

Introduction:The test method is for determining the permeability to water of pozzolana mortar prepared and cured under specified conditions, by measuring the percolation of water through standard cylindrical specimens. The test procedure is as per IS: 1727 and for 100 mm diameter specimens. The same apparatus is used for determination of permeability to water of cement Mortars with and without addition of integral waterproofing compound

Description:The instrument consists of 3 Nos. of BRASS permeability cell - which consists of a bottom plate, specimen cell, water cell or collar, top plate and four tension rod with nuts to clamp down mould and collar between bottom plate and top plate. The bottom plate has an outlet for percolating water and is recessed to hold the mould in place with a washer in between. The top plate has an inlet for water, a connector for the application of pressure to the water in the cell.

Cement Mortar Permeability Apparatus are available in various variety such as 1) Three Cell and 2) Six Cell

Heavy-Duty, Standards-Compliant Construction

The apparatus is built from powder-coated mild steel, featuring brass/bronze cells and industrial-grade durability. Its design ensures compliance with major Indian standards (IS:1727, IS:4031, IS:2645), making it suitable for rigorous laboratory and on-site testing environments in India.

Efficient Multi-Specimen Testing

With the capability to test three specimens simultaneouslyeach with an independent control valvethe system increases efficiency and throughput for cement mortar permeability assessments. The leak-proof clamp and precision controls contribute to reliable and repeatable test results.

User-Friendly Operation and Safety

Operation is manual with no power supply required, using simple pressure gauges and control valves for accurate adjustments. The apparatus features a pressure release safety valve and easy-to-read analog display, ensuring operator safety and confidence during use.

FAQs of CEMENT MORTAR PERMEABILITY APPARATUS:

Q: How does the Cement Mortar Permeability Apparatus measure water permeability in mortar specimens?

A: The apparatus measures water permeability by allowing water to percolate through standard cylindrical mortar specimens housed in three separate cells. Each cell is pressurized via manual valves, and the flow is measured using an analog pressure gauge, determining the rate of percolation.

Q: What materials are used in the construction of this apparatus, and why are they chosen?

A: This permeability apparatus is constructed with powder-coated mild steel for strength and resistance to corrosion. The permeability cells use brass or bronze, offering durability and leak resistance, essential for high-pressure water testing of mortar specimens.

Q: When should this apparatus be used in cement testing laboratories?

A: It should be used when you need to determine the permeability of water through pozzolana mortar prepared and cured under specified conditions. This is crucial when testing materials for construction projects requiring durable, water-resistant cement mortars.

Q: Where is the Cement Mortar Permeability Apparatus best mounted for testing?

A: The apparatus is designed to be table-mounted. This stable configuration ensures easy access to the control valves, pressure gauges, and specimen cells during laboratory testing operations.

Q: What is the process for conducting a typical permeability test using this apparatus?

A: After preparing mortar specimens (100 mm diameter, 50 mm height), they are placed in the three leak-proof cells. The water reservoir is filled, pressure is manually adjusted via the regulator, and flow rates are monitored. Results are recorded from the analog gauge as water percolates through each specimen.

Q: What benefits does this apparatus offer compared to automated systems?

A: This manual system requires no power supply or complex electronics, providing immediate, reliable operation. Its robust construction, ease of use, and compliance with IS standards make it suitable for a variety of testing environments with minimal maintenance.
